National 4/5 Drama helps you develop essential skills for the modern world and supports your personal growth.
It is also a recommended subject for pupils looking to venture into Law, and a desired subject for Medicine.
Drama Skills
In groups, you will respond to a variety of stimulus, creating your own unique drama, developing skills in teamwork and creativity.
Production Skills
You will learn in depth about all of the production areas, respond to a scripted stimulus, creating a design concept and working in a production role with a group of actors and designers.
Added-Value Unit (National 4)
Working as an actor or in a production role in groups, you will create your own performance using a published script.
Performance
(National 5)
Working as an actor or in a production role in groups, you will be examined on how you prepare and present scenes from a published text.
This is worth 40% of your final grade. The written paper has two sections. Section 1 is an evaluation of a previous performance, Section 2 is a response to stimulus.
This is worth 50% of your final grade. This takes place towards the end of the course. A visiting assessor comes to examine your performances, both actors and designers.
This is worth 10% of your grade. This is a 400 word essay which describes how you prepared for your final performance.
You will explore and develop your drama skills by creating and performing your own work, with opportunities to reflect and evaluate. You will be assessed throughout the process, complete a booklet and present your work to an audience.
You will be assessed working in one production area, where you will use your ideas to enhance a performance. You will complete a booklet, reflect throughout the process, and present your work to an audience.
Towards the end of the course you will create a performance working from a published script, and will be assessed by your teacher in an acting or production role.
Choosing National 4/5 Drama will allow you to develop all of the meta-skills, which will help you become a creative and adaptable learner, promoting your success for the future, whilst also making you stand out in the job market, as someone who can creatively collaborate and think outside of the box.
