Entry Requirements

To choose this course, you must have completed the S3 Practical Craft Skills course.

Course Assessment

For both levels, you work through several practical models in three units - Carcase Construction, Flat Frame Construction, and Machining and Finishing.

National 4 pupils will need to complete each unit model with some paperwork, as well as the final Added Value Unit model to complete and pass the course.

National 5, you will have an exam that makes up 30% of your final grade that focuses on materials, tools and machines, and safety in the workshop. The remaining 70% is your Course Assessment model which combines skills from all three units to produce a product set by the SQA.


Career Links and Progression

After completing this course, you can go onto college courses or apprenticeships in joinery, carpentry, and furniture making. It will also help build up your practical skills and safe working practices for any practical career like construction, brick laying and roofing.
