The National Progression Award (NPA) in Acting and Performance is designed to give you the opportunity to have hands-on experience in a pre-professional setting.
This course consists of 2 units: Professional Theatre in Context and Theatre Skills in Performance.
Despite being the same level as Higher Drama, this is offered as an alternative course or as a ‘stepping stone’ towards Higher Drama, because this course is nearly all practical and does not have a written exam.
Professional Theatre in Context
You will do the following:
Investigate contrasting styles and genres of theatre
Explore the role of the actor, director and production team
Analyse professional theatre productions
Theatre Skills in Performance
You will do the following:
Demonstrate understanding of the rehearsal process and associated roles
Take part in a production as an actor
Evaluate your own process and performance
Here is how you will be assessed:
You will complete one report on contrasting styles and genres of theatre.
You will complete one assignment on the roles of the director and production team.
You will complete one extended response presentation on two professional shows.
All of the above are open book or conducted with notes and can be written or oral presentations.
Here is how you will be assessed:
You will complete one written paper in exam conditions in class.
You will be observed by your teacher throughout the rehearsal process.
You will be assessed in your final performance.
You will complete an evaluation of your progress throughout the course.
Choosing NPA Acting and Performance will allow you to develop all of the meta-skills, which will help you become a creative and adaptable learner, promoting your success for the future, whilst also making you stand out in the job market, as someone who can creatively collaborate and think outside of the box.
