At Peterhead Academy, we offer NPA Art & Design Level 5 for learners S4, 5 and 6. The aim of the NPA is to develop practical and theoretical art skills through coursework focused study.
The course is formed of 3 mandatory units; mixed media, printmaking and illustration.
NPA Art & Design is best suited for learners who love to experiment and explore their creativity through hands-on learning experiences.Â
Entry Recommendations:
S3 learners who are working at or have achieved level 3 in Art and Design.
S4/5 learners who plan to leave school, or don't plan to take Higher Art & Design (you cannot progress from NPA)
S4/5 learners who feel they need a step between N5 and Higher (you can take a year to develop practical skills)
Any learner hoping to apply for an art course at college/university (NPA provides an excellent and varied portfolio for applications)
Learners will work through a range of practical skills, such as paper manipulation, collage and mark making, in their sketchbook. We then combine the skills learned to create 3 final pieces inspired by established mixed media artists.
Learners will learn and practice 3 printmaking techniques and record their process in a log book. Pupils will be trusted with professional printmaking equipement like screens, lino and brayers.
Learners will create illustrations for a book of their choice. We will pull together mixed media and printmaking skills to create a series of coherent illustrations.
