Chapter one:
A Big Surprise
Once upon a time, in a time not so far away, I, Diamond, lived in a quiet neighborhood on my peaceful little street in my square room. In winter, I was coming home from school. In the afternoon, I asked my mom if I could have Valiente, my friend from school, come over for a playdate. My mom seemed skeptical, so I mentioned some things we could do.
‘’We could swim, draw, knit, play tag games, play connect four and that kind of stuff.’’
My mom thankfully concurred with my suggestion, so I called her on my phone.
When Valiente answered she said, “Oh hi! Is this Diamond?”
I replied saying ”Yes, can we have a playdate?”
Then she responded with a “Sure.”
Shortly after the call, she arrived at my house in her mercedes. Her mom has a fortune, inherited from her unknown great uncle.
We played for a while, forgetting all about the pool, until I remembered we could go swimming. I lent her a swimsuit and towel and we went to the pool with my mom. When we were at the edge of the pool we all thrust ourselves up into the air and down into the pool with a big SPLASH!
When we came back up we were not in my backyard pool anymore.
Chapter 2:
The Ocean
Valiente exclaimed ‘’This is shenanigans!’’while mom fainted.
I felt so much anxiety rush through my veins. Me and Valiente noticed that we were stranded in the Ocean! It was really big and it was a tropical blue with lots of fish scurrying around our feet. When we were caught up in our thoughts thinking about where we were, we forgot all about Mom. I was so panicky. We dived in and got Mom. We tried to swim to an island with Mom in my arms. I was so exhausted I almost gave up, but we arrived at the island before the water could overtake me.
I set her down on the hot golden sand. With my ears to my mom's chest, I listened carefully but could not hear her heartbeat. I was super duper scared from the silence of her heart. Me and Valiente tried to do CPR on her hoping that we would both succeed saving the life of mom. We both paused, we could not go on. We thought she was dead, but after the stressful attempt, she woke up coughing
up water violently.
Chapter 3:
The Forest
When we finally settled down from all of the drama, my mom said we should try and get some help. We looked out in the ocean, and did not see anybody. So we turned around and saw big creepy trees.
We did not notice the forest a few seconds ago. We were concentrating on mom. My mom said to stay close, so we made a line with my mom in the front and Valiente in the back.
We started searching in the mysterious forest. We walked, looking in the stinky mist for a while until mom said we should build a shelter because it was almost dark. The forest had a stench to it that made my nose clog up. It was hard to focus on building the shelter.
When we were done making the shelter with branches of a tree, mom found a sharp rock and a long stick. She started carving a point on the stick and finished very fast.
After that mom said, “Stay put while I go hunting.”
She disappeared into the thick shrubs and vines.
Valiente said, ‘’Let’s make a fire.’’
I didn’t know how to make a fire without matches, so she showed me how to make a one in no time. Soon after that, I heard a THUMP THUMP. I cautiously got up and told Valiente to go in the shelter because of a rustling noise in the bushes.
When the blurry figure came through the darkness, I noticed it was just Mom. I told Valiente to come out of the shelter. When Mom showed me the food we were going to eat I uttered the words“WHAT IS THAT?!” in fear and disgust.
Mom had an ugly, beastly and dead creature in her hands. It was so disturbing, I could not even imagine eating it. When my stomach growled, I got over how disgusting it looked, so we cooked the weird looking animal on the fire.
I exclaimed, ‘’WOW that smells good!’’
Chapter 4: Ugly Ferocious & “Dead” Creature
When I finished eating, I suddenly heard a ROAR, and then a STOMP as loud as a t-rex would sound in the movies, while a large shadow passed the shelter. I peeked out a slit in the shelter roof. It was another one of those ugly, beastly, and “dead” creatures but this time it wasn’t dead. It was big and it was ALIVE! I was so scared, I froze up and couldn’t move. I WAS PARALYZED!
It sniffed the ground with its head down and tail up. It came towards the shelter and it inhaled my essence. Then it awkwardly licked me.
Mom was further away, out of the shelter, and thought that I was going to get injured. She picked up a rock as big as a basketball and threw it at the creature. It blinked, and then got angry and charged at her. It was so fast Mom barely had time to get out of the way of it tackling her.
Valiente said, “RUN!”
So we all did. We ran and ran and ran and ran.
I said “It’s gaining on us!”
Just then, Valiente exhaustedly uttered, ‘’I think I see a light!’’
And she was right!
We found a town so we ran towards it. As we approached the town, I noticed the creature did not follow us. It just stayed there with its eyes sparkling in a sad kind of way. So I paused only for a second because Mom pulled me violently into the big town.
Chapter 5:
The Town
The first thing we did was run into what looked like the main office building, and we went to the front desk. At the front desk, there was a man. Behind him was a hallway. The guy at the desk seemed very spacey, so it was hard to get his attention. I waved in his face to get his attention. He acted surprised.
My mom said, “Hello, we’re lost and need to get home, do you know where Vermont is?”
The man said, “ Sorry I don’t know where that is or what your talking about. If you need help finding home, go up the hall a little more and you will see a golden door which will lead you to the town leader. He can probably help you if you have a problem that isn’t a joke.”
We were confused that he thought it was a joke.
I exclaimed, “ This is a real problem and we’re very stressed about it. It is not a joke!”
“Ok, ok,” replied the man.
I walked past the man and down the hall to the golden door while the others followed me. When I got to the door, I felt an enormous amount of hope and then knocked on the door.
Chapter 6:
The Town Leader
The door swung open and the town leader was there! He invited us into a glorious room. It had a chandelier, an enormous golden table with candles, placemats, gold silverware, and more. There was also a locked up diamond cabinet.
He offered us some tea. At first, I was too distracted by the room, and I think the others were too. He repeated the question and a moment later, I snapped out of it.
I said, “Sure, I would like some tea,” and I sat at the golden table. We all gathered around the area of the golden table and talked.
He asked us” Where do you live?”
We all replied, saying, “Vermont.”
He seemed very shocked and exclaimed, “How are you gonna get back home?!”
“We don’t know!“ We all replied, “We came to ask you that.”
He walked to his cabinet and noticed that it was locked up, so he proceeded to the back of his desk to get the key, which was in a secret compartment. He nervously went back to his cabinet, unlocked it, and pulled out a wooden jewelry box. He sat back down at the table. He opened the box, and there was an amulet!
He said, “You can use this to go home. It can make portals. You can open the portal in the temple of phantoms at sunset, which is soon. Be careful with it. It is ancient. You should go and open the portal now, but be aware that there’s a giant creature guarding it that is very dangerous. Dangerous, but trickable. You haven’t got much time, so hurry up and go!”
Chapter 7:
Back into the woods
Me, Valiente, and Mom went out the golden door. We also ran past the front office with the man inside. Then, we swiftly sprinted outside the town and into the woods.
When we got into the dark forest we became more careful and aware of our surroundings. On our way to the temple we ran into what looked like giant eggs. When we looked inside there was nothing in them, so we slowly crept around them and down the forest floor until we got to the temple of phantoms, which was guarded by the creature.
It was the creature we had seen before, in our journey traveling to the town. The ugly, beastly, and “dead” creature that had chased us.
I knew exactly how to get past it. I shared the plan with the others.
We went on a hunt to go find the materials we needed. Our plan to stop the beast was to lure it somewhere else and make it stay while we snuck into the temple of phantoms. My mom hunted down some different creepy looking animals to use as bait, while Valiente and I made a cage out of wood. Then, we started the trap.
Mom made a sound to get the creature’s attention. It smelled the meat that we had put into the cage and followed the scent right into the trap. Then we pulled the cage door down. It was trapped! We did it! But it wouldn’t stay stuck there forever, so we ran into the temple of phantoms.
Chapter 8:
The Temple of Phantoms
We made it into the temple of phantoms. It had a lot of murk that made it super hard to see. I could barely even see Valiente and Mom, so I said, “Find each other’s hands.”
We tried to find our way to one another and succeeded. We kept walking forwards until I bumped into something. I thought it was a door because of a handle that poked me in the stomach. We tried to push it open and it did.
Beyond the door was a big bright room made with pearls and diamonds. I noticed that in the middle of the room there was a door frame made out of emerald. The emerald door frame was the source of the light.
I thought that the amulet could open the the portal in the door frame. I reminded Mom it was sunset and that we should hurry up. I also told her I thought the portal could open in the door frame.
I took out the amulet and said, “Open!”but nothing happened. I said “Open!” again but nothing happened.
I went to Mom and she said, “What’s taking you so long?”
I replied, saying “I don’t know how to open the portal!”
But then Valiente got an idea.
“This place is magic,” she said, ”so we could probably think about where we want to go and it will transport us there.”
So, we all thought about my house and closed our eyes. When we opened our eyes, we were in my pool and it was still afternoon.
