“So I’m here to get ya’ all pumped, Ok!”
“Yeah.” few people answer by far I’m the most enthusiastic.
“Great answer.” Jane the director answers this movie were auditioning for is about her life.
“Okay so one at a time you’ll follow me into the green room and we’ll film you auditioning and then send it to Roberta.”
“Who the heck is Roberta.” I think in my mind. I look around the room and by the look on everyones face, they know as much as me.
“ Roberta is the producer of this movie who lives in LA.” Everyones faces looked so relieved to know it wasn’t some code.
“Alanna, do you wanna’ go first.” Jane says itching her black hair.
“Sure.” I say. I walked into the green room and stood there waiting for Jane to tell me where I’m auditioning she grabs onto my hand and walks in and out of clothes racks, which happen to be everywhere.
“Were Here!” She screams. I find myself surrounded by clothes racks, a black curtain to my back and, a photographer to my front.
“Can I do the car scene, on the ride to the aunts house.”
“Okay I’ll read for everyone else and you'll read for Joe.”
I look up to the sky exhale and look at Jane who smiles at me and fills me up with joy.
Chapter Two
“Ring, ring”
“I got it Mom!” I run to the phone, the red kitchen tiles feel cold on my bare feet.
“Hello.”
“Hi may I speak to Alanna.” says someone in an obviously fake french voice.
“This is her.” I say suspiciously
“This is Jane.” She says dropping the accent.
I get excited because I know what's coming.
“You got into the movie!”
I bite my lip to hold in a scream, but its no use.
“AAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Whats going on?” My mom asks in a very concerning voice.
“Thank you,thank you so much!”
"Your welcome",Jane says, "I'm really looking forward to working with you."
"I'll see you in a week for a meeting party, bye.”
I run up the stairs, my brown hair flying out of the hair tie I had it in. "Mom",I scream at the top of my lungs, ”I got into the movie!!! My moms face lights up with excitement.
"Oh, that's Awesome! Do you know who else is in it?"
"I know that the person acting as my mom is Paula Pell.” my mom looks as if she's trying to puzzle out this bizarre joke.
"And then the person playing my dad is David Koechner they're both fabulous.”
"well you have quite the resume already!" My mom says hugging me.
I stay silent feeling like a bottle of seltzer that is about to bubble over the top.
"Rufus,Rufus,Rufus!" I say screaming and running towards my eleven year old golden retriever."Can you believe it! I'm gonna be in a movie with famous people!"
"woof woof!" Rufus replies excitedly. All of a sudden I hear little taps on the ground.
"Sido,Sido,Sido!" I say to my eight year old jack russle.
“I’m going to be in a movie!” Sido just yawns then stares at me sideways and lies down on her back for a belly rub.
“Can’t wait for next week.”
Chapter Three
“She’ll be comin round the mountain when she...”
“Okay, Alanna I think you've sang that enough.” I don’t even care that my mom stopped me from singing. I am going to a fancy restaurant to meet the famous people and to meet the cast of the Movie!
”Were here!”
“YEAH!” I scream running towards the restaurant.
“Alanna”, I hear from the top level of the restaurant that has three stories. I immediately put my hands into a karate chop position.
”Come on up,its awesome here.” I squint trying to look at the mysterious person speaking to me.
“Sam!” I say letting my arms rest and running up the stairs
“Who did you think I was?” He asks scratching his hair that looks perfectly like Tintin's.
“I didn’t know who you were.” We stare at each other for a little bit until finally he speaks.
“Hello, folks.” I all of a sudden feel someone holding onto my head. Me and sam both look up at the same time and we see David Koechner standing right there. That is the famous person playing our father.
He says he high fives us then walks off.
“Hey look over there I wonder what's happening.” A little bit away is a big group of people.
“Lets go.” Theres one seat left, I beat Sam to it, So he sits on the arm of the chair.
“Wheres Paula?” I ask. Paula is the woman who is playing our mother.
“Right here!” I hear a voice say.
“So who are you?” Paula asks smiling with her blonde hair flowing behind her.
“I’m Alanna and I’m playing Bethanne.”
“I’m Sam and I’m playing Buggs!” Sam pipes in cheerfully.
sam’s mom starts pointing to the door.
“Hey Alanna, I have to go home now but I’ll see you tomorrow at the first day of filming.”
“Yeah okay I have to go home to probably.” I say looking at my mom who is sitting with my dad talking.
“Okay, goodnight...you weirdo-creep.” Sam says standing up and waving his hand in the air.
“Farewell, you rabid baboon.” I say walking towards my mom.
“Mom ready to go home.”
“Of course, lets go.”
That night I couldn’t go to sleep I kept thinking about how awesome the set would look.
Chapter four
I wake up and then run out the door, into the car and soon enough I’m at the movie location.
“Alanna.” Sam says running towards me in a suit with a tie and black pants.
“Hey.” I ask feeling claustrophobic looking at this gigantic house.
There were so many people putting up lights and working on the set that I start to hyperventilate for space.
“Hey Alanna, Right?” I hear from behind me as I start to hyperventilate.
“Yeah, what’s your name?” I ask to a short brown haired women with a lot of makeup on.
“Shauna, I’m the makeup person could you step into here.” I grown on the inside, I do not like makeup one bit. But I don’t want to let her down so I sigh and say
“Sure.” When I walk into the makeup room I see Paula Pell sitting in a chair talking to sam with the other makeup artist walking back and forth between Paula’s face and the makeup table pretending not to listen to paula’s fascinating stories but she leans in each time Paula speaks quietly.
“So Alanna,” I hear Paula say. “How long have you been in the theater business?”
“Uhh...My first acting class was when I was two years old and my first play was when I was five.” I say troubling to spit out the words because I did not want to sound braggy.
“Wow, you've been in the biz, quite a while.”Paula says patting Sam on the head while he smiles just as big as if he had won a gold medal in the olympics.
“You're all good.” both of the makeup people say in unison.
“Thank you.” I say
“Talent to scene one, Talent to scene one.” I hear screamed in my ear by the clapper board lady.
“What?” I say as if I had just heard a new language.
“Talent means Actors and were going to work on scene one so, Go down to the dining room and sit in your assigned spot.” She says looking around, writing something on a piece of paper, and calling over the only sound person named Mike.
“Got it.” I say running over all of the things she said in my brain. I walk through the boys bedroom to get to the dining room where
I see Sam held in a headlock by the oldest actor, David, Who is wearing a white T-shirt and blue pants. I start to laugh until I realize that I should probably help.
“Are you okay Sam?” I ask pushing his head out of Dave’s arms but laughing at the same time. Sam just stands up exhales quick, straightens his shirt then walks off as if he is an old rich person kicking up his legs and pointing his toes.
Me and Dave look at each other for a little bit then break out laughing. For the next three hours we shoot the first scene of the movie.
The first scene of the movie was not three hours long but we only had two cameras so we would do the scene then we would do it again with the cameras rearranged. It got very tiring and annoying after awhile, but finally a man called lunch so all of the actors stood outside and waited until the crew had gotten all of their food and was practically done eating. That’s when the actors were able to go. There was one thing that I don’t think a lot of people know about the difference between theater and movies, the actors and the crew are very separated and in theater they are together constantly.
We all meet on the porch in costume to eat and talk. We were all kind of bored and this was just day one of six.
“So you guys ready for the next two hours of this breakfast scene.”
“Oh, I’m so pumped.” I say sarcastically hoping that they’ll call it early.
“Yeah me too.” Cassie who is playing the main character says putting her arms in the air and rolling her eyes. I close my eyes and pretend I’m in bed and before I know it I am in my bed I have my favorite quilt on me and I’ve been asleep for hours.
Chapter five
When I wake up there is little time left before I have to go to shooting the movie but I’m happy because today were doing the driving scene and it is going to be shot in an actual VW eighty’s van I think that this scene is going to be my favorite scene. Waiting for everything to be ready in the van and for people’s microphones and costumes to be on is exhausting but dave entertains us by putting Sam in a headlock. When were all ready we sit in the car and drive to Marlborough where we’ll be filming because we need a place to drive where you won’t see normal cars at all. This movie takes place in the nineteen-eighties that’s why we need to go to a place where we won’t see any modern cars. I get motion sick very easily and so on the ride to marlborough I feel vomit slowly start to rise up my throat I look around as I thought there is no place to puke, everyone is in costume and this van is a rental so almost in tears because of the pain of how gross the thing I’m about to do is, just as one little drop pops out of my mouth, I swallow the liquefied food.
I look back at the rest of the cast looking like I was just knocked out.
“What’s up?” Colin the only redhead in the cast asks.
“I’m sick.” I hear Sam gasp loudly as if he just saw a ghost. Then he starts to sing to the tune of Best song ever by One direction.
“And we drove all day in the old Volks Wagen and we were like oh oh oh and Alanna almost puked on us and we were like oooooh.” He sings getting into the rhythm.
“Nice.” I say giving Sam a high five but then shortly after looking at Cassie who is praying for her life rolled up into a ball.
“Are you Okay?” I ask looking at her concerningly and desperately trying to get rid of the motion sickness.
“This car is so old I’m not sure if we will make it.”
“We’ll be fine.” everyone says patting her on the back or head.
“Where Here!” I scream letting out a gigantic sigh and stumbling out of the car only to be put right back in again for three straight hours down windy roads in the middle of no mans land. When we get back it’s dark and some of the actors pass the time by playing a game.
“Lannie?” I hear
“Dad?”
“Ready to go home?”
“Yeah, Okay.” I say smiling because the motion sickness is just starting to leave my face as if a sorcerer was slowly pinching the top layer of my skin off leaving me with my normal color instead of lime green.
Chapter six
“Alanna wake up!” I hear being said from the kitchen. I groan stretching my limbs in all different directions. I look out the kitchen window after the long hall of walking ten feet from my bed to the stove, and look at the thermometer.
“NINETY TWO DEGREES.” I scream at the top of my lungs.
“But it’s in mid-september school started almost a month ago!” “I know, you should wear shorts.” My mom says looking at me as if she was apologizing, because I am wearing thick sweat pants, a thermal long sleeve shirt and a red face drenched in sweat.
“Yeah.”
When we get to the movie location everyone is practically wearing bathing suits, and it still looks like they just took a shower. My sister walks up to me, She is the production assistant.
“Ready Alanna?” I take a deep breath before answering then just slowly nod my head
“You don’t look to good, have you eaten anything?” I shake my head.
“well you most definitely have a fever, power through it.” My sister says feeling the heat in my forehead
“I can tell.” I say walking over to the fan.
“Talent outside.” I hear screamed by the clapper board lady. I walk my way down and everyone can immediately tell I dont feel good.
We spend three hours outside in the heat until finally were called for lunch.
“Are you going to eat anything?” Sam asks me.
“I don’t think so.” I say not budging from the fan.
“Everyone outside.” It takes a while to say goodbye to the A.C but Sam finally drags me out-side.
“You should eat something.” Addie says looking at me with her newly dyed brown hair.
“Or at least drink something.” I am just able to look at them before falling on the floor.
“Are you okay!” Addie says propping me up against the wall.
“Fine.” I say out of breath. We walk down a hill for another two hours of filming. Everyone is starting to go a little crazy now but I’m definitely the worst.
“Talent to the van.” I thought we were done.
“Nope.” My sister, Shannon, says kind of annoyed.
“We still have another two hours of filming inside a van that has been sitting in this heat so its basically a greenhouse.” I step inside and its immediately hard to breath. We shoot a scene inside the van for half an hour.
“Ok thats a break.” I feel sick to my stomach Shannon runs over to me.
“Five minutes off, how much have you drank?” She asks.
“Nothing.” I say running into the bathroom then just making it to the toilet with my vomit. When I step out I wipe the green from my mouth. Shannon hugs the loosest she can, so she doesn't make me sick again.
“I’m gonna drive you home.”
“Okay.” I say feeling better in my stomach but hot in my head.
Chapter seven
“I’ll pick you up at four AM.” I sigh hug my mom then sadly walk to the house. I’m going to be there for sixteen hours.
“Are you okay?” Cassie asks running up to me and wrapping her arms around me.
“I’m okay I had a minor heat stroke.”
“I know what will help.” Cassie says running me into the house then up the stairs. She leaps through the doorway of the staff kitchen, runs to the fridge and pulls out an ice cold bottle of water. I don’t have the heart to tell her I drank at home so I accept.
“Thanks.” I say as I look over to a table filled with actors all sobbing their eyes out.
“Whats up over here?” Sam looks up with two tears running down his face.
“Were telling sad stories and seeing who can last the longest without crying.”
“That’s awful.” I say handing a dish rag to anyone at the table playing the game.
“Talent to set.”
“Thats us.” Dave says rubbing the rag against his eye-balls. We all walk down to the living room.
After the long hard working day I exhaled and hugged everyone in the cast.
