Chapter 1

'' Mom I'm home,'' I said walking into the kitchen. I heard no reply so I

walked up the stairs into my mom's room. There was nothing there but the pumpkin I picked out at the store. I put it in my mom's room so my brother Derek who was 8

and was 3 years younger than me would not touch it. Oh ya Derek, I forgot that my

mom had left to go pick him up from soccer practice. Ugh that means they won't

come back till 5:30 and it was only 5:00. But I couldn't wait that long, I’m way too

hungry.

My mom still had to go grocery shopping. ''It's hopeless,''I muttered to my

self, there was nothing to eat.

While I was still looking for a quick snack I heard a loud BAM!!! coming from upstairs. I stopped what I was doing and ran up the stairs. As I was walking through the hallway I heard the loud BAM!!! again but this time it was even louder. The loud sound was coming from my mom's room. I opened the door and there it was, the pumpkin was lying right there on the floor and I had no idea how it got there.

Then I heard a door open downstairs.

As I ran downstairs I heard my mom and Derek walk into the kitchen. When

I got downstairs my mom asked me to help get dinner ready. “But Mom I don’t

want to.“ I really didn’t want to because I wanted to find out how my pumpkin landed on the floor. But I knew I didn’t have a choice so I thought I might as well just help.

As soon as I was done I went right up to my room and tried to think of any way possible for my pumpkin to be lying on the floor and it was not even broken. Maybe it was the wind or maybe a squirrel came in from the window. I don't know. I thought I was thinking too hard because it was already 6:00 and I was tired. “Sarah it’s time for dinner” said Mom. Finally.

“I’m starved” I said as I walked downstairs to eat dinner. Before I got ready for bed I went to take a look one more time in my mom’s room. “What?” I said. The pumpkin was gone, it totally vanished. I wondered what happened to my pumpkin. DEREK, I bet he took my pumpkin, oh he’s going to get it. “DEREK!!!! What did you do with my pumpkin?” I said.

“Nothing,” Derek said.

“Then where is it Derek?” I said.

“Maybe Mom moved it into your room,” Derek said.

“That could not have happened because I saw my pumpkin twenty minutes ago. In that time mom was with me. Derek will you help me find my pumpkin please”? I asked.

“Yea sure,” said Derek.

I think I’m going to check my room I thought. When I got to my room there it was! My pumpkin was there on my bed but how did it get there? No one else was up here but me before my mom and brother came home. And they were with me the whole time, so how the heck did my pumpkin get in my room?“Derek I found it.”

“Where?” Derek said.

“I found it on my bed but I have no idea how it got here.”

“I don’t know either.”

“Derek you didn’t even go upstairs.”

“Ya I did go upstairs to go to the bathroom while you helped Mom with dinner but the pumpkin was in Mom’s room when I walked past it.”

“But then how did my pumpkin get into my room?” I said.

“I don't know” Derek said.

“Guys it's time to go to bed,” Mom said.

“But it's only 7:56,” Derek told Mom.

“So it's time to go to bed Derek” Mom said “If you don't you are going to get a very very big consequence Derek.”

“Fine Mom I'll go to bed,” Derek said.

“Yea you will” said Mom.

“Good night Mom,” Derek said as he left my room to go in his own room.

Well I guess it's time to go to bed I thought, but I can't, I'm way too anxious to find out how my pumpkin ended up in my room. But I guess it's just going to have to wait till tomorrow because I'm really tired. But as soon as I was about to fall asleep I heard a strange sound coming from under my bed, but when I went to see what it was AHHHHHH!!!!! It was my pumpkin with glowing red eyes as bright as a flame and as it was coming closer and closer!

My mom and Derek came rushing in my room and turned on the light and the pumpkin vanished from sight. “Whats going on Sarah?”

“The-the pumpkin it was alive.”

“That’s ridiculous, you're crazy, the pumpkin is not even here.”

“Well it was.

“Derek! Guys be nice. Sarah it was probably just a bad dream,” Mom said to me as she was leaving. “Goodnight Sarah. You too Derek, we’ll talk about this in the morning.”

“Yea ok well ok we'll see what really happened.”

Chapter 2

It is so embarrassing how last night my sister was totally talking crazy about her pumpkin being alive, how the heck am I going to believe that? How weird is she.

“ Wake up Derek” Mom said.

“Five more minutes!”

“No Derek it’s time to go to school,”Mom replied as she threw the blankets off me and put them on the floor. “You’re going to be late for school Derek hurry up. Sarah is already downstair eating breakfast”.

“I’m going,” I answered as I jumped into my clothes.

“Wow someone slept in,” Sarah commented as I sat down and started eating

my breakfast.

“Mom what time is it?”

“ Time to leave hurry up you two,” my mom said to me and Sarah.

“Come on Derek we have to leave like now we have to be at school

by 8:15” Sarah told me

“Alright,” I said as walked out the door.

“ Sarah I think we should go to the Town library after school to see what we can find on pumpkins that are alive.”

“Okay,” Sarah answered. As Sarah and I came to the front of the school we stepped inside and we both went upstairs.

“See you after school Sarah” I said as I walked into my classroom.

My teacher switched the seats now I don’t have to sit next to creepy Carrie.

Oh no I have to sit next to Allison, I’m going to embarrass myself big time.

Okay I’m going to just say it, I kind of have crush on her okay a really big crush

on her.

The day went by pretty quick. I mean it’s already lunch but I still have

three more hours till school is over till I can go to the library and till I don’t

have to be near Allison. I haven't embarrassed myself yet but I bet I’m going to.

For lunch I get home lunch, ever since last year my mashed potato

moved it was so creepy. I had one last bite of my bologna sandwich and I heard a

big loud Ding Ding it was the recess bell it was now time for recess.At recess me and my best friend Jimmy played kickball with some of are classmates. It was fun.

Chapter 3

At school after morning meeting we had spelling. I thought it would be a normal spelling but no my teacher Ms. Has had to ruin everything entirely by having

a big spelling test. Who does she think she is seriously. After a long spelling test

which I bet I didn’t even get a good grade on. Because she skipped a lesson

god my teacher is an idiot. So practically everyone in my class including me had no

idea what we were doing except for mr. Smarty pants Luk Brengle who thinks he’s the next Albert Einstein he’s really a big show off.

After spelling there was library with Mrs. Blunderfield. But I actually like her,

she’s nice. When me and my class got to Library I decided to ask Mrs. Blunderfield

some questions of what me and Derek saw yesterday. “So Mrs. Blunderfield have you ever heard of, I don’t know, pumpkins that are alive?” I said.

“Not particularly but you might find something in shelf number three,” she answered.

“Okay thanks,” I answered back. As I was at shelf three I found a very unusual large book on the floor called Mysteries Of The Night, so I took a look inside the book. It said Chapter 1 Werewolves, Chapter 2 Lady Midday, Chapter 3 Pontianak. Oh here Chapter 4 Death Dumpkin, oh this might be what me and Derek saw yesterday. I’m gonna have to tell Derek about this later.

After Mrs. Blunderfield checked out my book me and my class went back to

the classroom and we got personal reading time until snack. As I opened my book there was a weird smoke smell that flew right into my nostrils. I turned chapter to chapter. I finally reached chapter four Death Pumpkin and I read, If you run into a

Death Pumkin there is no turning back. The Death Pumpkin is a very dangerous

sort and will kill you if you give it a chance. The death pumpkin is just a regular pumpkin but not really. It is a dark soul that lost its way and got very hungry for random people everywhere. It will kill you for just being curious and walking by to check it out. When you lift the cover the soul comes out and takes out its long dark gooshy hands of old dark blood and grabs your neck and strangles you until you turn purple and while you’re dying the soul will give you the kiss of death and suck out your soul. There is only one way to survive after lifting the cover… You have to not be scared. It is the most difficult thing to do as the soul’s cold hands reaching for your neck with those long dark gooshy hands of old dark blood. If the soul senses no fear it has no strength to proceed.

“Sarah are you going to have grapes and cheese or cheese and crackers?”

said Ms. Creet.

“What?”

“Which snack do you want?”

“Cheese and crackers please,”I answered.

The day is almost over until I can talk to Derek but I don’t

think I can wait.

Derek

chapter 4

After recess there was nothing very fun except for dismissal. But I wonder if we

will have time to go to the library after school. But I think Sarah had library today so

she might have found something. I hope so because our mom said we have to come

straight home after school.

Today for writing we had to work on a project, this project had to do with the

book we were reading called Halloween Town. It’s about a town of Halloween creatures who are all living peacefully until a mean wizard attacked a very special

pumpkin statue that was extremely large and that kept the townspeople colorful, happy and nice. The mean wizard broke the pumpkin statue and a young witch has to save Halloween Town with a little help from her grandma and siblings. That’s something big for homework.

chapter 5

When the walkers were called I got my stuff and went down stairs to meet up

with Derek. Derek asked me if I found out anything about the Death Pumpkin in Library.

I told him about the book, “Mysteries of the Night” which I had taken out. I didn’t think to bring it home. I went on to explain that chapter 4 was all about the Death Pumpkin. I went on.. “The Death Pumpkin is very dangerous. It kills you if you give it the chance. The only way you can survive the dark sole within the Death Pumpkin is to not be scared which is the hardest thing in the world. So Derek, I guess that’s what’s in our house. We need to read the book together to find out how to destroy it. We have to go back upstairs to my classroom and grab the book out of my desk.”

Me and Derek ran upstairs to my classroom and grabbed the book. Then we ran the blocks home because we had to find out how to destroy the Death Pumpkin. When we got home our mom was still at work. We sat at the kitchen counter studying Mysteries of the Night. As I read from the spot where I had left off I found out that the only way to destroy the Death Pumpkin is very hard. You have to stand there in front of the pumpkin fearless, open the lid and as the shrieking dark soul emerges say right into its face, “I’M NOT SCARED OF YOU!”

“Derek, we have to do this. Come on we have to destroy this pumpkin before it destroys us.” We ran up the stairs to my bedroom where we last saw the Death Pumpkin. Thankfully it was still there. Really it could've been anywhere.

“You do it Derek.”

“No, you do it Sarah.”

“Fine.. I’ll do it” I said as I stood in front of the pumpkin. I took a deep breath and cleared my thoughts to become fearless. I lifted the lid. The dark soul emerged shrieking.

I stood fast and shouted, “I’M NOT AFRAID OF YOU!” The dark soul flushed down into the pumpkin like a toilet and the pumpkin exploded.
