Welcome to the 2020 2021 Maple Leaf Book Project site.
Maple Leaf is a story writing project and contest for 5th and 6th graders at the three Brattleboro elementary schools. The project has been running for many years- we believe it is 20 years! This year the project is taught by enrichment teacher Dianne Clouet of Green Street School, currently a 4th - 6th Grade writing teacher for the Green -Oak-Dummerston Remote School.
Maple Leaf is a challenging endeavor. There are many deadlines, much revision, and lots of work! Students who complete this challenge are rewarded with a more developed sense of themselves as writers.
Local authors Jessie Haas and Michael Daly joined us again to support the students' emerging stories as editors and with conferences. Meeting with these published authors in group and individual conferences is a project highlight for many of our young writers.
For the second year in the contest's history here in Brattleboro, the students will not bind their own physical copies of their books. However, all writers will receive a printed copy of their book. Additionally, the traditional Maple Leaf t-shirts will be printed and delivered to this year's writers, along with their books, as the project ends.
All of the stories, created over the many years since Maple Leaf entered the digital age, are posted above in the year they were written and their titles. Enjoy!
