A Memorial in Connecticut

A Monument in Connecticut

One monument in Connecticut is The Tower on Fox Hill. In a time when Native Americans still controlled the area, a group called the Podunk used the hill like a lookout tower. They were competing with two other groups, called the Nipmuck and Mohegan, for land around the Mischenipsit Lake. In 1878, a wooden observation tower was constructed on the hill. In 1880, a blizzard destroyed the tower, and an artist used the remains of the bottom floor as a studio. After the artist died, a memorial tower was built on the hill.
