3.1/5 This Friday, I journeyed over to Petee's Cafe, the most recent expansion of the highly-rated Petee's Pie Company from the Lower East Side. Located in Clinton Hill, the Brooklyn branch boasts the same menu of signature pies with the addition of brand-new savory dishes. We decided to try their Muffuletta sandwich, which showed some serious potential with it's freshly-baked bread and locally sourced Meat Hook cold cuts. In the end, the sandwich turned out to be dare I say, fine? There were a handful of stronger, more negative opinions of the sandwich, but the general consensus was that the bread tasted "too healthy," the meat was plentiful, and the olives needed to do better. It wasn't too impressive or anything spectacular; it was just...fine. Other than being overpriced (surprise, surprise), that's all I really have to say about this sandwich. Now onto the pie.

You didn't really think Marlowe was going to let me get sandwiches from the place that advertises "the absolute best pie in New York" and not get any pie? For this warm, summer afternoon, we kicked off the weekend with two different fruit pies: the Fresh Apple and the Strawberry Dream. Let me tell you...Petee's wasn't kidding when they said they had "the absolute best pie in New York." If I'm being honest, I don't know if I've even had a better pie than their's. The Fresh Apple Pie was absolutely delectable, the crust was superb, and the apples were indeed fresh. The Strawberry Dream was, well, a dream (see photo below for reference). Elizabeth claimed that this pie was all she's ever needed; eating it was like having an out of body experience. From the homemade buttery crust, to the creamy mascarpone filling, to the topping of tart lemon curd and glazed strawberries, this pie is the best pie in existence. Even the people behind it say so themselves. These pies were hands-down 5 stars out of 5 stars, so if you're going anywhere near their locations in Brooklyn or LES, skip the muffuletta and go straight for dessert.
