Hometown BBQ

4.5/5 First off, let's talk about location. Hometown BBQ is basically where Ikea is. That's right. Is it worth the thirty-minute subway ride and then another thirty-minute bus ride plus a five-to-ten-minute walk? That's something you'll have to decide. There was a cap of how many sandwiches I could order, so we ended up doing half lamb belly banh mi and half brisket sandwich. We'll just talk about the lamb belly banh mi for now. Smoked lamb belly is pretty darn good. Like the description, it's also really fatty which can be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. The bread was a little too much, in terms of ratio. It also, ranked against other banh mis, was not as authentic. But, again, I want to reiterate: is it worth the travel (as well as the $12)? Up to you... Up to you.

Lamb belly banh mi (grass-fed lamb belly that shreds like pork shoulder and drips with liquefied fat and also comes with cilantro, chiles, and pickled slaw that anoints this Southwest-meets-Southeast Asia sandwich)

Sides: Smoked pit beans and Collard greens
