Sugar, spice and everything nice Those were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls. (Cartoon Network’s Powerpuff Girls intro)

I was strangely drawn to these phrases when I had to think about the James Sandwich from City Sandwich. Roast beef, mozzarella, onions, lettuce and, literally, ‘cutting edge’ bread were compressed effectively to yield a compact sandwich. However, this compact package proved satisfactory in just a few aspects.

To get the bad out the way, the James Sandwich didn’t have a stand out flavor or a noticeable taste. There was little to no salt or pepper in the mix and the beef, while well prepared, would have been a lot better with these ingredients or at least some sauce to compensate for the lack of tastiness. This was the general opinion of everyone in the room. The bread, which tasted okay, was also a bit hard around the edges and dusty. And while this concerned others and gave another a minor lip cut, the bread was not terrible and was also partly responsible for the most appealing feature of this sandwich.

After a few weeks of exploring arm-sized to strange-tasting sandwich, it was great to comfortably hold a sandwich in one palm and happily chow down. There was no reorganizing contents, wiping off excess sauce or contemplating one’s earlier decision to say ‘Yes’ on the Google Form a day earlier. This sandwich was simply nice to handle and nice to eat. So, after averaging a 3.4/5, we can say Jimmy did quite a good job, but as we seek out a Powerpuff Sandwich, spice and everything nice were areas dear Jimmy failed to check.
