Router Table Safety

The router is a versatile tool that can be used for purposes such as putting profiles on edges for joinery or decoration, cutting dadoes, rabbets, and patterns, and trimming laminate.

The router uses a bit rotating at high speeds to cut. The bit fits into a collet chuck, which is tightened to grip the bit and hold it in place.

The router is held by it's handles and passed

counter-clockwise (left to right) around the work-piece.

The router can be turned upside down and placed inside a router table. A router table

allows work to be passed over the router instead

of passing the router over the work. This process allows for the use of safety guards, feather boards, and a fence, which can allow for safer operation than using the router by

hand. Because the router is upside down, the direction that stock is fed into the router changes. Wood is fed from right to left.
