Power Miter Saw Safety

The miter saw is a versatile tool used for making cuts across the grain of wood. They can be set to specific angles to make miter joints. Higher quality saws can also be set to specific depths to make dado cuts.

In class, 6th graders will use the hand miter saw to cut lines in the tic-tac-toe game. 7th and 8th grade students will use the power miter saw for a variety of projects.

The power miter saw is an aggressive saw that uses a circular blade. When cutting, the wood must be held tight against the fence and table on the machine. Fingers and hands should be kept at least 6 inches away from the blade at all times. Failure to follow these rules can result in serious injury.
