Pewter Casting:

Screwdriver

Overview

The screwdriver project is part of the manufacturing unit. Casting and molding is one subsystem of manufacturing. Permanent mold casting is a widely used method capable of making all sorts of metal products. Students will use pewter to make the screwdriver. In this process pewter is melted in a crucible at roughly 600 degrees Fahrenheit. A steel screwdriver blade is placed in the mold. The pewter is carefully poured into the mold. Once the pewter solidifies, the screwdriver is removed from the mold. The excess metal is removed and the screwdriver is ready for use.
