Basketball Game

Overview

The basketball game project is an introductory material processing project designed to enhance students ability to follow directions and measure correctly and to teach students how to read technical drawing and how to use a variety of common woodworking machines and tools. In the sixth grade class students primarily use hand tools. This project will introduce students to machines such as the belt sander, drill press, jointer, miter saw, planer, and table saw. Students will use separating, assembly, and finishing processes to convert rough cut lumber into a final product. Plans and the grading rubric for this project can be viewed below. Timeline

Day 1: Lockers, jobs, calculations

Day 2: Prepare 4" lumber

Day 3: Layout and cut base, layout and drill hole, sand

Day 4: Layout and cut backboard, layout and drill hole, sand

Day 5: Sand parts to remove flaws, CNC backboard

Day 6: Layout, cut, drill, and sand hoop

Day 7: Layout and cut spoon block, layout slot, have slot cut

Day 8: Sand parts to remove flaws

Day 9: Assemble backboard assembly and base assembly

Day 10: Cut pole, get ball assembly, final assembly, initial coat of finish

Day 11: Scuff, second coat of finish

Day 12: Scuff, third coat of finish
