Pewter Casting: Husky Charm

Overview

The husky charm project is part of the manufacturing unit. Casting and molding is one subsystem of manufacturing. Various forms of casting are widely used methods capable of making all sorts of metal and glass products. Students will use pewter to make a paw print pendant that was originally designed in CAD and 3D printed. The printed part was then used to make a silicone mold. The pewter is melted in a crucible at roughly 600 degrees Fahrenheit and then poured into the silicone mold. Once the pewter solidifies, the pendant is removed from the mold. The excess metal is removed and remelted and the charm can be filed smooth and attached to necklaces, bracelets, or keychains.
