New UI May 2016

Canvas will have a new look starting the day after the Spring 2016 semester - on Saturday morning, May 28, 2016.

This new User Interface ("UI") has been in development for several months. Instructure lets each school decide when to make the transition. At Biola we have decided to make the transition between the spring and summer terms this year.

The new UI mainly affects the home page and main navigation when you first log in. Within courses, things mainly look the same. Here's what the old and new UI looks like:

The new user interface makes the site look better on mobile devices and matches the look of the Canvas app. The main navigation has moved from the top of the page to the left side of the page.

If you would like to see the new User Interface before May 28, log in to Biola's "Beta" Canvas server here: https://biola.beta.instructure.com/ (Note: this is a test server - any work you do there will periodically get wiped out - the purpose of this server is for testing)

Logging Out - In the old user interface, there was a "Logout" link on every page. In the New UI, logging out requires two clicks: (1) click "Account" on the left side, then (2) click "Logout" in the menu. We're hoping Canvas will make a more prominent logout link in the future.
