Zoom uses a program installed on your computer or an app on your mobile device. (Rather than just running in the browser like Google Hangout Meet or Big Blue Button.)
To install the program, go to https://zoom.us/download
Can't view Zoom recordings? No permission to join Zoom class? Need a password to view recording?
All students have a Biola-managed Zoom account connected to their Biola email address in order to participate in Zoom Classroom meetings and view recordings. To access this Zoom account, go to https://biola.zoom.us/ and click the "Sign in with NetID" button.
(If you see a message asking you to "Update Account Information" see the next section.)
This web page lets you see your upcoming meetings, recordings, profile, etc. To use Zoom, open the Zoom app. (See "Installing Zoom" above).
When you open the Zoom application, you may need to log in. Log in with your Biola account by clicking "Sign in with SSO"
Next, enter "biola" as the "Company Domain" and click "Continue"
You will then see a page asking you to log in with your Biola NetID. (Or you might not see that page if you're already logged in on the browser.) Once you're logged in, click "Open Zoom Meetings" or the "Launch Zoom" button.
If you're trying to watch a Zoom recording on Canvas, and it asks for a password or a "passcode," here's how to find that. Normally, when you click on a recording, the browser automatically copies the passcode, then pastes it for you on a new browser tab. However, some browsers can't do that, and that might not happen depending on your browser settings.
On Canvas, go to the "Zoom" link.
Click on the "Cloud Recordings" tab.
Find the recording you want to watch and click on it (the blue text).
On the next, page, you'll typically see two files "Recording-1" and "Audio only-1." If you want to watch the video, click "Recording-1"
A new browser tab will open and attempt to play the video.
If you see a prompt for the passcode/password, go back to the original browser tab
In the original browser tab, click on the eye symbol to reveal the passcode.
Copy the passcode and then go to the other browser browser tab
Paste the passcode and you'll be able to view the video.
Normally, your browser will do steps 5 through 9 for you, but some browsers and some browser settings prevent this so you may have to do those steps manually. You could also try a different browser (like Chrome or Firefox).
Also, you have to be logged in to your Biola Zoom account in order to watch Zoom recordings on Canvas (see second section above).
If you created your own personal (non-Biola-managed) Zoom account before summer 2020, and if you used your Biola email address for that personal account, Zoom may ask you to join the Biola domain when you go to https://biola.zoom.us/ and sign in with NetID. You have two choices:
RECOMMENDED: For most people "Consolidate into Account" is the best option. This will change your Zoom account into a Biola-managed account, connected to your Biola email address. You will only have one account, and this avoids confusion.
ALTERNATE: If you wish to maintain a separate non-Biola Zoom account, you can choose "Update Email Address" and connect your account to your personal (non-Biola) email address, such as a Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo email address. You will then have two separate Zoom accounts, and you need to make sure to use your Biola-managed Zoom account when attending Zoom Classroom meetings at Biola or attempting to view class recordings on Zoom.
To determine which account you're using within the Zoom app, click the photo icon in the top-right corner. If it shows a non-Biola email address, click "Switch Account" at the bottom of that list, and sign in as described above.
If you are not a current student at Biola, but have been using your Biola email address for a Zoom account, you should change your email address, to avoid losing access to your account.
To Change Your Email on Zoom: sign in to the Zoom web portal, click "Profile" then click "Edit" next to the "Sign-in Email" line. See https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362563-How-Do-I-Change-the-Email-on-My-Account- for more detailed instructions.
You can use Zoom to record a PowerPoint lecture, either while you're lecturing live to students in a Zoom meeting, or on your own, with no students present as a way of preparing an online lecture ahead of time. See Record a Lecture with Zoom.
Some teachers may have access to VidGrid, the video hosting platform we use for our online classes on Canvas. If you have a Biola Zoom account and a Biola VidGrid account, you can do a Zoom Recording on VidGrid.
