To edit your Canvas Notification Preferences, click the Account link at the left of the page, then click Notifications:

Notification Preferences Sample

Whenever something happens in one of your classes, Canvas generates a "notification" and you can decide how and when to receive those notifications. Types of notifications include: you receive a grade for an assignment, a due date is changed, a teacher posts an announcements, there's a discussion post, etc. You can receive these notifications by email, text message, Twitter, etc. And you can decide how often (if at all) to receive these notifications.

  • Each row is a type of event that happens on Canvas which generates a notification.
  • Each column is a method Canvas can use to notify you about that event.
  • Each cell in the grid determines if and when to notify you.

Click in the grid, choose one of these options for each type:

If you choose "Do not send me anything," Canvas will not notify you. However, whenever you log in to Canvas, you will still have access to those notifications on your Home Page.

Register Web Services

If you authorize Canvas to log in to other web accounts for you, you can connect your Canvas account to other accounts like Twitter, Google Docs, and Skype. This assumes you already have an account on one of those services. If you do, here's how to link it to Canvas:

  1. Click Account along the left of any Canvas page, then click Settings.
  2. In the Web Services section, see the list of Other Services
  3. Click on one of those services
  4. Fill in your username on that service, then follow the directions to log in

Once you have linked your account to Canvas, you will notice a new entry in the Ways to Contact list on the right hand side, under the Other Contacts section, plus a new column on the Notification Preferences screen.
