End of Fall 2013

December 20, 2013 marks the end of the Fall 2013 semester.

After 11:59 p.m. classes on Canvas will become "read-only" for students. Students will no longer be able to submit assignments or add discussion posts. Teachers and TAs will still have full access to Fall 2013 classes.

Problems Accessing Canvas - Dec 19th and Dec 20th

On Thursday, Dec 19th, from 12:01 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. students were unable to access their courses on Canvas

On Friday, December 20th, from 9:05 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. students and teachers were unable to access some courses on Canvas.

Both of these issues were caused by a couple errors in the way that Canvas is connected to Banner (the Registrar's official list of enrollments). The Banner system listed Dec 19th as the end of the semester instead of Dec 20th. So at 12:01 on Dec 19th, students and TAs lost access to their classes. We fixed that in the morning. A separate error in the code that connects Banner to Canvas (along with some assumptions we were making) caused Canvas to drop all enrollments for Fall 2013, including students and teachers. That happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. Friday. We discovered the error and fixed it by 11:15 a.m.

However, our fix accidentally included all students who had dropped a class. So teachers will see students who have dropped the class re-appear on their rosters on Canvas. For now, just ignore those extra students. This should be fixed within a few days.
