Download Template

New courses on Canvas are empty, with no content. Instructors can copy content from their previous courses by going to Settings (on the bottom left), then clicking "Import Content into this Course." Then you can choose to "Copy A Canvas Course" if you want to copy content from one of your other courses on Canvas, or "Canvas Course Export Package" if you want to upload a Canvas Package from your computer.

A Canvas Package has the file extension .imscc and contains course content. You can make your own packages, or get them from other sources (such as a textbook publisher's web site).

The Department of Digital Learning has a Canvas Package designed for online classes. It's a template with some suggested content and sample organization.

To download and import the standard online template from the Digital Learning Department:

  1. Download and save this file: http://dropbox.biola.edu/OnlineTemplateSpring2015
  2. Go to your class on Canvas
  3. Click "Settings" on the bottom right
  4. Click the "Import Content into this Course" button
  5. Choose "Canvas Course Export Package"
  6. Click "Choose File" and find the file you just downloaded
  7. Click "Import"

Standard Biola Syllabus

Biola's University Effectiveness department has created several standard syllabus templates which you can see and download here. Those templates are in Microsoft Word format and are suitable for creating a paper-based, printable syllabus. You can also create an online version on Canvas. To do this, download the file listed below and follow the same steps listed above:
