This page has some resources describing how to create an online quiz or test on Canvas.
A "quiz" on Canvas means a quiz or test that students take online. Canvas does not distinguish between a test and a quiz. Most kinds of quiz questions are automatically graded by Canvas (multiple choice, true/false, matching, etc.). However, you can also ask essay questions. These must be graded by a teacher or TA using the SpeedGrader.
NOTE: if you're giving a quiz or test in class, you should create an "Assignment" rather than a quiz.
Basic Summary: To create a quiz, go to "Quizzes" and click the "+Quiz" button. On the next page, enter a description and choose the settings, then click the "Questions" tab to enter questions. Click "Save & Publish" when you're done.
More Details: See Canvas documentation on Creating a Quiz.
Note: If you set the "Until" time & date, students will need to finish taking the test by that time. If you use this with the "Available From" time & date, be sure to leave enough time for them to download & install LockDown Browser, start the test, and use the full allowed amount of time before the "Until" date/time. We generally recommend giving a window of at least a couple days, even if you're using a timed test.
By default, students can take a quiz with any browser. If you would like to require them to use the LockDown Browser, turn it on for that quiz. Click "LockDown Browser" in the left menu (1), then click the green arrow next to the quiz (2), then click "Settings." If you don't see the "LockDown Browser" link in your left menu, edit the Navigation menu in the Settings to make it visible as described in Managing Course Navigation Links.
Next, change the setting to "Require LockDown Browser for this exam" (4), then click the "Save + Close" button (5).
The very first time you click the "LockDown Browser" link, you will need to authorize Respondus to access your account. Click the red "Authorize" button. Next, when you first access the LockDown Browser settings in a new class, you may see and "About LockDown Browser" splash screen with some links to tutorials and resources. Click the brown "Continue" button at the bottom right.
In order to take a test/quiz that has the "Require LockDown" setting enabled, students will need to download and install the browser on their computer and use that browser to take the test. When they attempt to take the quiz without the LockDown Browser, they will be shown a link to download it.
It may be helpful to include these instructions in the description of the quiz, or in an email or announcement to students
You will need the LockDown Browser to take this test. Download and install the browser to your computer using this link: http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=973946446 which downloads a version specific to Biola's Canvas server. After you have installed it, quit out of your other browsers (like Chrome, Firefox, Safari), and open the LockDown browser application, which will automatically connect to Canvas. Once you log in, go to your class and click on the exam to take it.
This link downloads a special version of the LockDown Browser that only opens one web site, Biola's Canvas site at https://canvas.biola.edu. Students need this specific version in order to take a LockDown-enabled test/quiz on Canvas at Biola.
