Writing a Narrative

Walt: combine the tools we have learnt to write a narrative of our own.

Instructions:

This year, we have spent time studying what a narrative looks like, and the various things that we can do as an author to make our narrative better.

1. You will be shown a picture that you will use to write a narrative of your own. You will be given 30 minutes each morning to write, edit, and revise your story before posting it on your blog Thursday before morning tea.

2. Blog Comments: Please comment on 3 different PES blogs. You must choose the blogs you comment on carefully!

Writing a Narrative

Walt: develop conversation in our writing.

Walt: accurately punctuate conversation in our writing

Instructions:

1. Complete your Hiwi the Kiwi narrative.

2. Take some time to work on this online assignment to practice using speech marks.

3. Take what you have learnt about using speech marks and work on adding them to your Hiwi the Kiwi assignment.

4. Repost your revised assignment, using your new WALT on your blog.

Writing a Narrative

Walt: teach a lesson when writing a narrative.

Instructions:

Last week we went to the Hiwi the Kiwi assembly and Minstrel challenged us to write a story about one of the lessons we learnt during his presentation. Do you remember him saying that the song Kai Moana was a song that told of all the important lessons he had for us?

1. Read through the lyrics to Kai Moana and choose 2-3 lessons that you learnt from the song.

3. Complete the Story Planning Doc and have your final story posted on your blog by Morning Tea on Thursday to be consider for the PES fishing rod prize.

Writing Compound Sentences

Walt: recognise and craft compound sentences.

Instructions:

1. As a class we will spend some time discussing what makes a compound sentence.

2. Spend some time exploring compound sentences by playing the Compound Sentence game until you are able to get 10/10. Be sure to read the information after you answer each question.

3. Complete the Compound Sentence worksheet.

4. Continue to work on your NZ Olympic Athlete assignment. This week you need to focus on completing your CREATE task.

Compound Sentence Game:

Walt: write our answers in our own words.

Instructions:

1. As a class we will spend some time discussing ways to decide who from the NZ Olympic Team you would like to focus on.

2. Using the Planning Doc, spend some time researching your athlete in order to accurately describe them to your readers.

3. Present the information you have found using Slides or Drawing in a creative way to post on your blog. If you think you are able to produce a HyperStudio animation with a voice over describing your character you are able to choose this as an option as well.

The Rio Mascots

Walt: use colourful language to describe an object.

Walt: paint a picture with our words.

Instructions:

1. As a class we will take a look at the Rio Olympic Mascot and create our own word wall.

2. Write your own paragraph describing the Olympic Mascot.

-Remember, to Show your readers the Torch! Do not simply Tell them about it.

-Peer Edit with a partner.

-Then, once you have revised your paragraph bring it to Mrs. Moala to edit together before you post it to your blog.

The Olympic Torch

Walt: use colourful language to describe an object.

Walt: confidently answer a question using complete sentences.

Instructions:

1. As a class we will take a look at the Rio Olympic Torch and create our own word wall.

2. Write your own paragraph describing the Rio Torch.

-Remember, to Show your readers the Torch! Do not simply Tell them about it.

-Peer Edit with a partner.

-Then, once you have revised your paragraph bring it to Mrs. Moala to edit together before you post it to your blog. Due Morning Tea Tues.

3. Explore the Rio 2016 Website with a partner from your reading group. Add the things you find interesting on this padlet.

Immersion Assembly

Walt: use graphic organisers to write a recount.

Instructions:

1. As a class, we will review what kind of writing a recount is before watching the Recount Video.

2. Complete the Immersion Assembly Recount Assignment. Be sure you have the following parts completed on the day listed.

Monday: Brainstorm

Tuesday: Organise

Wednesday: Rough Draft

Thursday: Peer Edit/Final Copy Posted
