Harry's War

Walt: use our prior knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of a text and specific vocabulary.

Instructions:

1. Read your story carefully.

2. If you come across words or phrases you don't understand, use the visual cues (illustrations) as well as other words which you do know and prior knowledge of the topic to problem solve. Come to our group discussion prepared to share ideas and help each other out!

3. Using the text, create a short letter from Harry to Ted. In this letter, Harry is going to tell Ted that the war is over. Go to the writing doc here.

Think about:

  • How Harry feels at this moment in time.

  • How Harry believes the other soldiers feel at this moment in time.

  • What Harry misses the most about home.

  • What Harry is least looking forward to on the trip home.

Now add your thoughts, ideas and evidence to this Padlet. Keep remember to write these into your own words - sharing your new or improved understanding.
