Good Spotting!

Dictogloss

Walt: follow directions and work effectively as a group.

Instructions:

This week, we will be working together to learn what the expectations are for our Dictogloss Mondays beginning in Term 2.

Reading #1: Just listen.

-Sit back and enjoy the story.

Reading #2: Take notes. Then, with a partner, use your notes to rewrite the text that was read to you.

-Don't forget to include punctuation: fullstops, capital letters, commas, speech marks, question marks and so forth.

Reading #3: Take notes again, but this time listen carefully for things you missed in your reconstruct. -This is your chance to listen carefully for punctuation and to double check any gaps you may have.

Hooked On Camp

1. Now that we have practiced writing a hook, it is your turn to try it yourself!

Writing an Introduction

Instructions:

1. Did you know that all writing has a hook? This includes books, movies, and even music! We will spend some time as a class discussing what exactly a hook is.

2. There are many different ways to hook your reader. We will be exploring some of these ways and we will practice writing our own hooks of each kind.

3. Now that you have spent time learning about hooks, complete this assignment using your own piece of narrative writing.

What's in a Narrative?

Instructions:

1. It's your turn! Spend some time watching the links on the right and filling out a Narrative TOPS graphic for each movie. When you have finished them, post them onto your blog and write an amazing paragraph (4-6 sentences) telling your audience about what TOPS stands for when writing a narrative.

2. Play the was/were game and see if you can get 100% right! Keep shuffling until you are able to achieve 100% on your own!

1. As a class we have been reading the story "Book Uncle and Me" Did you know that this novel is a narrative? Let's spend some time together discussing the Orientation, Problem and Solution that we have discovered so far.

2. Keep working hard to finish your narrative from last week! Mrs. Moala will continue to give you individual feedback on your story in order to help you develop it further.

2. Use the Narrative Writing doc to help you write you very own narrative. Please have your narrative posted onto your blog by FRIDAY.

2. Write a paragraph (which will then go onto your blog), describing the experience of attending 'Duffy Theatre' on Tuesday afternoon.

-Think carefully about how we use our punctuation.

About Me - Blog Update

A year has passed since you last wrote your 'About Me' blurbs on your blogs!

Your 'About Me' blurb tells your blog audience about yourself, your whanau, and your interests for 2016! Most importantly, we need to to make sure that we are being Cybersmart (we will discuss this) when writing this because anyone in the world might read it!

We want our blurbs to be:

    • Different to everyone else's blurb! So all about what makes you special, different and the person who you are!

    • Short and sharp! Grab the attention of our audience and make them want to read more.

    • Cybersmart!

We also want our blurbs to flow. We do this by:

    • Using a variety of sentences! Make sure you start your sentences in different ways.
