This week we are going to read a story about a family. We will be focusing on finding evidence in the text to support our thoughts and ideas.

1. Read text 1 carefully, making inferences as you read.

2. McGoodys: Discuss Doc

- Get into a pair or a three from this group and share this doc to each other.

- For each question discuss it as a group and write your agreed answer.

3. Make a copy of the drawing McGoodys: Character Description. Choose a character from the text and follow the instructions to complete the task.

Instructions:

This week we are going to read a story about some ants and a grasshopper. We will be focusing on finding evidence in the text to support our thoughts and ideas.

1. Read text 1 carefully, making inferences as you read.

2. Open the padlet, Makeymakeys: The Ants and the Grasshopper. Use the text to find evidence to answer the questions.

3. Make a copy of the presentation Letter - Work don't just play. Follow your teacher's instructions to write a letter pretending you are the grasshopper and are writing to the Huhu Grubs to tell them about how to prepare for winter.. Post it to your blog and the blog log.

Shipwrecked

Walt: Inference by finding clues to help us work out what isn’t told to us in the story.

Instructions:

This week we are going to read a graphic comic about a man who was shipwrecked. During our reading we will have to inference lots to work out what the author wants us to understand. To do this we will find clues in the text and use our prior knowledge.

1. Read text 1 carefully, making inferences as you read.

2. Open the padlet, Makeymakeys: Shipwrecked. Use the text to answer the questions.

3. Make a copy of the presentation Journal Entry - The Shipwrecked Man. Follow your teacher's instructions to write a journal entry pretending you were on the beach when the shipwrecked man finally made it to land. Post it to your blog and the blog log.

Gorilla shot dead

Walt: Make an informed opinion.

Instructions:

This week there has been a very interesting story about a Gorilla being shot dead. There are thousands of people saying that he should have not been shot. But at the same time there are lots of people saying the right decision was made. So what do you think? Do you think the Gorilla should have been shot? Well to before you can make that decision you need to know some facts!

1. Make a copy and read the text Opinion: Gorilla shot dead!

2. Write down some facts from the text.

3. Write a paragraph sharing your opinion on the question: Do you think the Gorilla should have been shot?

Robin Hood and the Silver Trophy

Walt: Inference what authors want us to think about the characters.

Walt: Connect themes from multiple texts to them form our own ideas.

Instructions:

This week we are going to read a couple of texts which have similar characters in them but they aren't the same. During our reading we are going to think about what the author wants us to think about them. We will need to inference (use the clues in the text and our prior knowledge) to think about each character.

1. Read text 1 and then complete the task Job Application - Teacher Avengers. You will need to read the instructions carefully and use the text to help you describe Robin Hood. Remember to delete all the red writing and post to your blog and blog log.

2. Listen to the story of William Tell: The story of William Tell - Audio

3. Read text 2 as directed by your teacher. While reading think about how William is different to Robin Hood.

4. Make a copy of the drawing Compare and Contrast -Two Archers. Follow your teacher's instructions to create a chart which compares the two archers we have read about. Once you have finished this task take a screenshot, post it to your blog and the blog log.

Instructions:

1. Make a copy and read the text Spitting to Survive carefully by yourself.

2. Answer the questions by looking back through the text.

3. Create a google presentation or drawing that shows 3 creatures that spit to survive.

Instructions:

This week we are going to find themes across a couple of texts. We will then use this theme to create our own story in comic form.

1. Read text 2 and then complete the Advice blog - White-tailed spiders. You will need to read the instructions carefully and use your text to give some good advice. Delete all the red writing and post to your blog and blog log.

2. Read text 1 as directed by your teacher.

3. Make a copy of the drawing Comic Strip: Overcoming fears. Follow your teacher's instructions to create your own comic strip. Once you have finished this task take a screenshot, post it to your blog and the blog log.

Walt: Use the context of the text to help us understand unfamiliar words.

Instructions:

This week we are going to be learning all about how different characters in stories have different perspectives and viewpoints.

1. Read the text as directed by your teacher.

2. Open the Padlet and post your comments about the perspective of the birds.

3. Your task is to make a short comic strip about what might the birds say to each other in the big tree? Open and make a copy of the task Comic Strip: The Tree Debate. Then move, add and copy the characters to make a short comic strip. Use the speech bubbles to comment on what the birds say.
