Wow, can you believe it? 21% of Australians have experienced mental illness!! Mental illness can affect a lot in life, such as making money, getting a job, healthy relationships, and making healthy choices as well as loss of motivation. This is why I think mental health centers should be free!
Depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior are mental illnesses that greatly impact people. Depression can lead to people not wanting to participate in everyday activities. They may isolate themselves and lose friendships. It can be hard to function, concentrate and do daily tasks.
People with mental illness need to seek help! This can mean seeing a counsellor, or a psychologist. However, this can be a huge cost for people. Young families are struggling to pay for life expenses, they can't afford $90 sessions each week, and that's just for an hour. It's not fair when people are struggling and can't see someone. How are they meant to live happily if they can't talk to someone?
We can make a change. Here are some ideas to help. Encourage peers to seek help, we need more education about mental health for kids, more access to counseling services and offer more free mental health services, and loads more.
With free mental health services, it can help 1 in 5 Australians live their happiest and best life. We need to take action, so people can stop living with this horrible illness.
My piece is based on the book Once by Morris Gleitzman.

"Why does this have to happen?" I asked.
¨I'm not sure, but we'll be okay," Felix replied.
I was so cold I felt numb. I tried to wiggle my fingers but I couldn't.
I thought everyone was kind but I guess I'm living in the real world now. I can't believe this is happening. I tried to pinch myself and I remembered I couldn't move.
I could hear the sound of the train rattling.
¨I'm so cold," Zelda whispered.
I hug Zelda so tight, I feel her little cold arm. I'm thinking if I should do something but it's a risky decision, but first we need to get out of here, but it might not end well.
I really miss my family
"Is this really what happens to Jews?" I asked.
"Unfortunately, yes," Felix mutters. His voice sounds so cold. We're so young, this shouldn't be happening.
"Thank you guys," I exclaimed.
"For what?" Felix and Zelda reply
"Everything," I whispered.
"Are you okay?" Felix asked.
"I think so,"
I'm panicking. I've never done something like this before.
"Let´s jump," I announced.
I slowly sat up regretting my decision. I looked outside and suddenly I was frozen.
¨Be careful," Felix said as he was shaking in fear.
I honestly didn't know why we're doing this, we're only kids.
