This school year, we have welcomed four new teachers. Mr. Jeromiah Bliss is our new principal. He has taken Wilton Jr/Sr High School into his own hands and has provided a new structure for the school year. He graduated from Clarksville, Iowa. This is not his first year as a principal or teacher. Mr. Bliss has been a principal at three other schools: North Tama, Clear Lake, and Charles City. He has taught as a Level III Behavior Disorder teacher at The Lied Center in Waverly, Iowa, and also held positions as a middle school Language Arts teacher, Student Advocate, Activity Director, and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at
Hampton-Dumont. Mr.Bliss chose Wilton due to the great staff, students, and the small-town feel. “I think that I have made a great decision,” Bliss stated.
The new junior high science teacher is Mr. Kyle Schveiger. Originally from Maquoketa, Iowa, Mr Schveiger graduated from Andrew High School and taught at North Cedar for four years, one as a district sub, then three years as a science and social studies teacher. Mr. Schveiger also worked at Pearson Education as a scoring director from 2017-2024 and substituted at Spragville, Mt. Vernon, and Olin. Mr. Schveiger earned his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell College, majoring in history and minoring in psychology and music. He also attained his Master of Arts degree in Military History from Norwich University followed by a Master's of Education in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. He chose Wilton because of its reputation, growing enrollment, and the teachers who interviewed him. “They seem like fantastic educators and people, all of whom made me feel welcomed,” Mr. Schveiger mentioned.
The next teacher is Kayla Gerard. She is the newest English Language Arts teacher here at Wilton. Miss Gerard has been a big help to Wilton. She is from Dewitt Iowa, and this is Miss Gerard's first year teaching. She student-taught at Calamus-Wheatland Junior High in the Spring Semester of 2024. Miss Gerard chose Wilton because “of its welcoming small-town atmosphere and the excellent staff at the school.”
Mr. Ryan Hand is our new Junior High Special Education teacher. Mr. Hand is a graduate of Wilton himself graduating in 2009. He has been teaching for nine years in two different districts: Cedar Rapids as a Level III Behavior-Focused teacher, and North Scott as an Elementary Special Education teacher. Mr. Hand received his undergraduate degree at Grand View University, followed by his Master of Special Education from Morningside University. Mr. Hand chose Wilton because he wanted to come back to his hometown to teach where his kids will attend school.
