Lots of people make New Year’s resolutions, and it’s no different here at Wilton Jr./Sr. High School. Quite a few people stick with their resolution and reach their goal, but there are times that some people don’t follow through for various reasons. Usually when people make a New Year’s resolution it is something long term. For example, some people choose to stop drinking pop, work out multiple times a week, or even gain or lose a certain amount of weight.
Not everyone has New Year’s resolutions though. In fact, many people that I talked to from Wilton Jr./Sr. High School don’t have one, which I found surprising. However, I talked to many different students and teachers and heard many interesting and challenging goals.
One goal that I found interesting came from Owen Milder. When I asked Owen if he had a New Year resolution, he didn’t seem to have one at first. After he thought about it, he made the goal, “I would like to figure out where I want to go to college by the end of the school year.”
One other resolution that I found interesting was from Kale McQuillen. He claims that some people call him a negative person. So Kale’s New Year’s resolution is to “become a positive person.”
There are people that have the same New Year’s resolution every year, but they like to make it more challenging every year. For example, a while ago Mr. Schulte made a goal to work out. The first year, he said that his goal was to work out once and then every year add one more day. So this year, Mr. Schulte said he “would like to work out four times this year.”
Working out seems to be a pretty common New Year’s resolution goal around our school. Trent Valet also wants to “work out four times a week this year.” Trent’s New Year's resolution is going to be a challenging goal to accomplish, as it is very easy to lose motivation to work out multiple times a week.
These are just a few of many New Year’s resolutions around Wilton Jr./Sr. High School. There are many more interesting and challenging goals around the school. I wish the best of luck to everyone with their goals, and a great 2025 year.
