The Kings of the Court
On Wednesday, March 12, Mr. Hetzler emailed the student body announcing the first annual pickleball tournament.
The following day, March 13, the bracket and rosters were revealed, giving the teams 24 hours to strategize and figure out how they would advance into the next round.
Friday the 14th was the beginning of the first annual Wilton High School pickleball tournament. At 12:10, the participants were sent to the gym to get ready for the first round.
The first two rounds were a first-to-eleven points match. There were a few notable games that were close, like “The Dilly Dallies” over "Montang & Fuse" (14-12), "In Memory of Gabe" over "Saures Dill Pickle" (13-11), "Doc & Kali" over "JK’s" (13-11), and "O.K at Pickleball" over "JLee" (13-11).
After the grueling five rounds of pickleball, the finals consisted of team "Luke N Morgan," made up of Carter Hull and Kale McQuillen, against team "Bent," formed from Ben Garvin and Trent Valet.
Team "Luke N Morgan" won the overall tournament, becoming the first ever Wilton Pickleball Champions.
Awards were also given out for the best team costume and best team name. The best team costume was awarded to the team "King Le Bon Bon," which included Andrei Robles and Calvin Dohrmann. The best team name was presented to Landon Coss and Louis Paulson for the name "Dill With It."
