During the Homecoming pep rally on Wednesday, September 25, the football team presented Coach Ryan Hetzler with a memorial bench in remembrance of his mother, Marcia Hetzler. Marcia passed away earlier this year. It was a special moment for the football team as they wanted Coach Hetzler to know his mom meant so much to him, the football team, and the entire community.
Mrs. Hetzler was not only one of their former teachers or coaches but a true friend. Coach Hetzler says he wants everyone to remember his mom for her “passion for kids and her passion for Wilton School.” She made a huge impact on every child she worked with and was loved by students and staff. Mrs. Hetzler was an amazing teacher that touched the lives of hundreds of kids. She was a big fan of all Wilton athletics, especially the football program. She filmed football games for many years and helped put together highlight films.
The idea for the memorial bench came from the Gray family. They contacted all the football families from grades 9-12 to include them in this notable gift. Of course, every family thought it was a great idea and wanted to contribute to the bench. Coach Hetzler has done so much for the football program, as well as the Wilton Community School District.
When the bench was presented to Coach Hetzler he said that it caught him “off guard,” but that he was extremely “appreciative.”
According to Coach Hetzler, his mother's memorial bench will be placed “at the central office” entrance where his mom “always entered the school.” This bench will keep alive the memory of Mrs. Hetzler for all who enter the school.
