The senior beaver football players have officially played their last game on their home field, and what a game to end it on.
The Beavers, coming off a dominant win against Aplington-Parkersburg (38-14), had MFL MarMac, last year's runner-ups in Class 1A. MFL came to the Beavers' field in the second round expecting to make some noise, but the Beavers wouldn't have it.
The Beavers started the game showing they could do whatever they wanted on offense and scored on the first drive. The defense stopped MFL’s Wing-T offense and scored on another drive in the second quarter. Unfortunately, MFL got inside the red zone twice in the second quarter, but the Beavers held strong and only allowed two field goals.
The team went in at half-time up 14-6, and after a motivational speech from coach Hetzler, the Beavers were ready to come out and finish the game. Ready to earn themselves a trip to the quarterfinals and one step closer to the UNI-Dome, the Beavers knew what needed to be done.
The Beavers' defense came out strong and stopped MFL after the first kickoff of the second half. The Beavers scored once more going up 20-6 and heading into the 4th and final quarter.
The Beavers scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, squashing any hopes MFL had in winning.
The Wilton Beavers came out victorious with a win over MFL 40-14, a great night for the seniors in their final game on their home field.
Next up, Regina, a rival that beat them earlier in the year and the only team that stands in their way of a historic first-time appearance in the UNI-Dome.
