“22 Karat Gold Prom” by Madi Stolarik
This year, Holly Springs High School will be presenting its 22 Karat Gold-themed prom for its students at the Sheraton Hotel in Raleigh on May 7, 2022. Prom is open to Holly Springs High juniors and seniors, including underclassman and outside guests if accompanied by a current upperclassman. Prom has been a highly anticipated event for both juniors and seniors throughout the year.
I interviewed Brezny Stanton, a junior and member of Prom Committee on the amount of work that was put into creating a wonderful night for the student body. I asked her,
“How did you come up with the prom theme?” She responded, “We came up with several themes and then voted on our favorite.” I asked her, “How much work goes into the prom?” to which she explained that “there are several committees for prom that meet at least once a week… and that there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes o,n such as designing the ticket and planning the food venue”. In addition to all the time and work put into creating prom, she expressed that it has “been super fun” and that “she is grateful she can put effort into an event that so many people will be able to enjoy.”
I asked her to explain what exactly goes into creating the prom event. “First, we booked the venue, booked a DJ, and decided on a theme. After that, we worked on planning decorations and the logistics of the night such as ideas for a photo booth, food, and how to sell and design tickets. On the day of prom, we have a group of great underclassmen men who will be working hard to set up decorations.” Last, I asked her what she is most excited about for prom. Brenzy admitted that she is “most excited to just hang out with my friends and see all of the planning come to action”.
I learned that there is a lot of effort and time involved in planning such a memorable event for the student body. Many students anticipate this monumental night of their high school experience but are unaware of the long preparation that the prom committee spends planning. There is an extensive amount of planning and preparation that occurs by students' peers, hoping to serve the student body and create a fun night.
I hope everyone has a fun night!
