“HSHS Track and Field” by Maria Guta
Our Track and Field team just completed an outstanding outdoor season, setting countless school records, qualifying times, and PRs. This past Saturday, May 14, was the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional Meet. Points were scored in the women’s open 400, women’s open 800, women’s 4x200m, men’s and women’s 4x400m, men’s 4x800m, high jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, and pole vault. Many of these athletes ran personal records and season bests at Regionals, fulfilling their many weeks of hard work.
All school record breakers were female this season! Madison Lamptey broke her own record in the discus, throwing an astounding 95-7 at Regionals. Andie Ackles set the shot put record with a 35-5.5 throw! Alden Bryson now holds the school record with an impressive 10 ft. pole vault. Four records were set on the track. Congratulations to Payton Allred, who ran a tremendous 59.94 in the 400m! Ellis Vaughan secured the 800m record with a 2:26.04! In the Sprint Medley Relay (a combination of a 400m leg, two 200m legs, and an 800m leg) Caroline Davison, Kendall Fahs, Sydney Petersen, and Payon Allred ran a 1:53.86! Congratulations to each of these athletes for being a part of HSHS Track and Field history. Special thanks to Coach Henry and Coach Fishback for working tirelessly to coordinate meets despite so many rainy Thursdays this season, along with everything they do for their (large) spring track squads. Go Hawks!
