“International Cultural Festival” By: Adeline Dewey
The International Cultural Festival has been a celebration at HSHS since 2019, when Ms. Patana first organized it. She had previously done this at other schools for about fifteen years. She explained that she brought the festivity over because it’s a beautiful way to get along to represent and celebrate all our own personal cultures.
If you couldn’t tell by the name, the International Cultural Festival is a festival that celebrates the different cultures you see all around our school. It gives students an opportunity to show everyone their roots and where they came from. Some of the cultures that will be present are Ethiopian, French, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and more. Currently, over a dozen cultures are represented, hoping to have more.
Every culture will present something different, whether that be having a booth, making food, or hosting an activity. Some things on the itinerary for this year are face painting, photo booths, henna, a fashion show, singing, and a harpist. There will also be food! For only $6 you can get your own crêpes made right in front of you, courtesy of the French representatives, Crêpe Time! (Formerly known as Coffee and Crêpes).
The festival will be held April 1st from 6-8 pm in our school’s cafeteria. All you need is $6 if you want food. You can still sign up to represent your culture or help with decorating and cleaning up until March 17th. They need more people to decorate and clean, so if you have the time or need service hours, please sign up. If you have any questions or concerns, you can email Ms. Patana (mpatana@wcpss.net) or Lydia Stockell (lastockell@students.wcpss.net).
