“Senior Spotlight: Karli Doty” by Adeline Dewey
I had the opportunity to speak with Karli Doty, a senior who was a part of The Nutcracker dance performance. She was in almost every part: the party scene, the Polynesian, Brazil, Scottish, Spanish, Irish, African, Greek, Bollywood, Cancan dances, flowers, and a toy doll solo.
Karli has been preparing and rehearsing every day since August 24 of this year. That's almost five months. Even with all this preparation, Karli was still afraid that she might forget a dance or mess up. She faced a few struggles, the main struggle being able to move her body correctly for some of the dances. Even with all these struggles, when asked if she would do it again, she said yes without thinking.
She learned through The Nutcracker not to take things for granted, and she recommends this opportunity to anyone who is interested. Karli is going to continue dancing after she graduates.
