“Faculty Spotlight: Richard Hunt” by Madison Woods
Richard Hunt is the architecture and engineering teacher, as well as the CTE department chair of 12 years. He was born in Boone, North Carolina in 1977 and went to Watauga High School, NC.
He attended college at NC State, spending five years there. His major was civil engineering for some time before he switched to technology education.
Hunt began his teaching career at Enloe High School until transferring to Holly Springs.
Like himself, his wife Amanda Hunt is also a teacher. She was once an educator at Holly Springs High at the time of its construction until becoming a librarian at another school. They've been married for nearly eighteen years, and together they have one son. Mason is a 12-year-old Boy Scout who enjoys backpacking and camping with his scout group and family.
The Hunt household owns two dogs, though Mr. Hunt has a unique desire for a pet opossum.
Outside of school, Hunt is a lifelong fisherman and woodworker who enjoys making things with his hands.
Richard Hunt shows a dedication to his class and his staff through his work and teaching. Not only that, but his commitment is evident through his 70-minute commute to Holly Springs High School--60 miles from his home!
Richard Hunt is a much loved electives teacher who helps new and upcoming freshman and graduating seniors alike. The freshman in his advisory class stay with him for all four high school years, and many have Mr. Hunt to thank for their success in college prep.
Stop by his class if you’re in the 2600 hallway and introduce yourself to Mr. Hunt, one of HSHS’s most experienced teachers!
