“HSHS Swimming and Diving” by Maria Guta
The Swim and Dive team is off to a fantastic start this year! The Hawks took on Middle Creek, Athens Drive, and Cary on November 30th for their first meet of the season. Despite facing tough competition, the Lady Hawks dominated the meet overall with 174.5 points to Cary’s 144.5. The men placed second overall with 158 points to Athens Drive’s first-place score of 186. Beneath these scores lie a plethora of strong individual finishes. Erin Riley, Tia Ormondroyd (2), and Carolynn Kenney landed first place finishes in the 200 IM, 100 Fly and 100 Breast, and the 100 Free, respectively. The Lady Hawks also had three second-place individual finishes and three third-place individual finishes. Special congratulations to Carolyn Kenney and Tia Ormondroyd for their qualification for the Regionals meet, to be held in February!
On the men’s side, Joe Bunger, Trevor Volk, and Dane Hogan went undefeated in the 200 IM, 50 Free, and 100 Breast. The men also had four second-place finishes and three third-place finishes. The Hawks prove lethal when these individual talents are combined.
The women clenched three first-place relay finishes in the 200 Medley, 200 Free, and 400 Free. The men finished first in the 200 Medley relay. Great leadership by senior captains Joe Bunger, Trevor Volk, and Kaitlyn Brennan, and congratulations to the team on a strong first performance across the board! We look forward to all you will accomplish this season.
