What you need:
Event is public.
Event Type will be Disabled Vehicle.
Location.
Vehicle information – if no license plate info, obtain VIN if possible. If missing a bit of info, add note in history.
Snapshot, if possible. If not, add a note in history.
HERO activities as following:
MOT/Traffic Control.
(Activity that HERO states he is performing.)
Tow Request (If in APD jurisdiction and HERO asks to (start tow) (SEE WRECKER REQUESTS TAB)
If HERO cannot assist, add "No Assistance" as HERO activity. (ex. Flat tire but no spare) Add a note in the history of why HERO could not assist.
If motorist is sleeping, HERO could request a welfare check.
Obtain information about the motorist from HERO (ex. race, age, gender, clothing, if breathing, is car running.)
HERO must stay on scene until agency arrives if the vehicle is a passenger vehicle. If commercial vehicle, HERO does not need to stay on scene.
Call 911 (or PD in area) and advise them of the situation. Follow their prompts and answer questions accordingly. Add to event history a comment stating who you spoke to, what time, and why. Add agency under info page 2 and click “notified.”
Add a note in the event history as “--HERO requesting wellness check from PD for sleeping motorist” also add note about any information HERO told you about motorist.
When PD arrives and checks on motorist, add any further information to event. Sometimes it’s just a gas call. In such a case, add “Gas” to HERO activities, or whatever it is that HERO assisted further with, if any.
If lane blocking on frontage or freeway, send an email. Include the AUS groups, and the proper maintenance yards. State any important information you obtain such as a law enforcement case number. Any time a lane closure changes an email must be sent. Once all lanes are open, a final email must be sent.
If lane blocking on the freeway, post DMS. Have them approved by supervisor/designated operator before executing.
**IF A DISABLED OR ABANDONED VEHICLE IS ON CCTV, PER SOP VEHICLE MUST BE CHECKED ON DURING EVERY 2 HOURS, AND A NOTE MUST BE ADDED TO EVENT HISTORY STATING IF VEHICLE IS STILL ON CCTV OR IF IT HAS CLEARED. IF UNABLE TO SEE DUE TO WEATHER/DARKNESS, ADD THAT TO YOUR NOTE IN EVENT HISTORY**
Example below of a disabled vehicle that has a flat tire, but the lug nuts are stripped. Due to this, HERO could not assist. See images below for proper way to add event.
Once the IN (Incident Number) is given to the HERO Driver the disabled vehicle will be closed out. If the HERO Driver spots or happens upon the vehicle, for whatever the reason a new event will be entered.
