Jim MacDonald (Class of 1976)
Jim was a three-year letter winner and starter for the Agate basketball team. He was chosen captain as a junior and senior and also MVP both of those years. He was chosen to the District 26, Section 7, All Tri-State, WCCO, MBCA All State, and Lions All-Star teams. His Agate basketball teams won the Seaway Championship twice, Lake Superior Conference and Sub-Regions championships in 1976. Following graduation, Jim accepted a scholarship to play basketball at UMD. He was chosen "Newcomer of the Year" as a freshman, "Comeback Player" and "Most Inspirational" in 1977. He was captain of the 1980 Bulldogs. Jim taught at Fridley and served as the Tigers head basketball coach for 28 years. He led Fridley to the State Tournament twice on his way to nearly 400 wins. He was named Conference Coach of the Year four times; Section Coach of the Year six times, and was recently selected to the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
