Herman Anderson (Class of 1924)
Herman was an outstanding athlete at THHS and graduated in 1924. He was chosen captain of the basketball team of which little was expected as they had no returning experienced players and a new coach. The team started out fast and had a very successful regular season. In District 4 playoffs, THHS defeated Deer River, Tower and Virginia, reaching the finals where they met Hibbing. The Agates defeated Hibbing and won the Silver Basketball (that you have all seen in the trophy case) and the right to advance to the State Tournament. Herman was selected to the All-District 4 Team. In front of 8000 spectators, Two Harbors defeated Minneapolis South 21-12 in the championship game. Herman was named to the All-State Team. The 1924 Agates ended the season with a 19-4 record. We know little about his life after helping bring the State Basketball Title to Two Harbors.
