Ray Magnuson (Class of 1931)
Ray was a powerful swimmer, accomplished gymnast, a softball and baseball player, par excellence, and a basketball player of note. Ray was chosen the Outstanding Male Athlete of 1931. In 1958, during the Minnesota State Centennial, Ray was recognized as Lake County Sports Champion for his contributions to the sports and recreation heritage of Minnesota. He was also chosen, by a local committee, one of the five greatest athletes of the half century (1900-1950) from Lake County. Ray worked for the D.M.I.R. Railroad for 40 years and when other athletes retired, Ray took up golf, bowling, volleyball and handball and mastered them with ease.
