Roy was an outstanding basketball player earning letters and All-Conference selection his junior and senior years. During his playing time, the Agates won three conference championships and Roy led the conference in scoring his senior season. Roy played basketball at Duluth State Teachers College (UMD) where he again was placed on the All-Conference team and led the conference in scoring. Roy became a teacher and coach and his 1950 Duluth Central team won the state championship. Taking on a new challenge, Roy changed careers and took employment with Northwest Life Insurance. He returned to Two Harbors to speak at the opening of the new Two Harbors Gymnasium and he also served as the Master of Ceremonies at the All-Class Reunion.
