Bill Stein

Bill Stein (Class of 1917)

Bill was an outstanding all-around athlete who starred on the gridiron and basketball court.  He was a member of the 1917 Agate State Championship Football Team.  Bill went on to play for Fordham University and later, along with others, started the Kelly-Duluth Football Team which was the predecessor to the NFL Duluth Eskimos.  Bill played with the likes of Jim Thorpe, George Halas, Red Grange and Ernie Nevers.  In 1928, when the Eskimos did not field a team, Bill played for the New York Giants.  Bill retired in 1930, but his shoes are on display in Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
