Cleansing from the defilement of sin is vital for obtaining spiritual and emotional health. Cleansing is an act of “emptying” yourselves from all that is yours. However, this is only half of the way towards sanctification. Once cleansed, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s presence heals pain, sanctifies, and restores to righteousness. We are called to offer our bodies, cleansed and holy, as a dwelling of the Holy Spirit.
If a man cleanses himself …, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master, and prepared to do any good work. (2 Timothy 2:21)
Prayer for Sanctifying with the Holy Spirit
Spirit of the living God, come gently upon me. Holy Spirit, fill me up with Your sanctifying presence. Heal the brokenness inside. Restore to me the righteousness and the goodness as it was designed from the beginning of time. Gladden my soul with Your presence. Penetrate deep into my heart and my mind. Breathe on me Your breath of life. Make Your dwelling within me. Anoint me for service.
Teach me the Way of Holiness. Guide my walk in the way of the Kingdom of God. Equip me with strength from above to resist the temptations of the evil one, the world, and my flesh. Holy Spirit, set me apart. I desire to be holy because You, my God, are holy. Impart in me Your goodness, Your love, and Your peace. May Your righteousness be my righteousness, Your goodness be my goodness, and Your wisdom be my wisdom. May the life I live in this body be the life I have in You. May I no longer live, but You, my Lord Jesus, live through me. Thank You, my Lord, my God, and my Savior. Amen!
