Thus far, we have discussed the roots of emotional distress due to trauma and how the practice of sanctification and transformation into the likeness of Christ heals pain. We studied the spiritual disciplines and sacraments of prayer, confession, repentance, and forgiveness. We explored the biblical teachings on law, sin, and defilement and their impact on one’s standing with God. We have built our understanding on solid scriptural foundations, and now we are ready to put the teaching into practice. It is time you apply the knowledge of sanctification and transformation to healing the consequences of trauma.
This matter concerns you alone, in the presence of God. Approaching Him requires an honest examination, a genuine confession, and wholehearted repentance. You are to stand before Christ, Your Lord, God, and Savior, in the privacy of your “inner room.”
There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5)
Jesus is our high priest, and we can approach Him with the task of confession and repentance.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
Come to Jesus for confession and forgiveness of sin. If you confide in a friend, a priest, or a pastor for confession and repentance, you are encouraged to do so. Seeking help and guidance from these individuals is a personal matter between you and God. These individuals must be mature Christians, bearing Christ's likeness. A confidant can be any member of the body of Christ, not only a paid minister. The principle of the priesthood of all believers gives us the right to this practice.
Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man/woman is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)
