With time, resentment, bitterness, hatred and anger become part of a person's personality. They become engraved psychological constructs through which we engage the world around us. How do we liberate ourselves from the enslaving power of the practices of the flesh that have now become part of our character? Apply these divine tools for healing:
1) Acknowledge, repent, and renounce the identified practices of the flesh.
2) Extend forgiveness towards those who caused you pain
3) Repent from your reactions to the offense
4) Crucify the practices of the flesh; call to death on the cross the root of anger, resentment, and bitterness.
5) Take authority in Christ to break the power of the psychological construct over your mind and heart, knowing that “whatever you bind on earth will be bound on heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is loosed on heaven.” (Matthew 16:19; 18:18)
6) Wash in the blood of Jesus for purification of mind and body, soul and spirit. What has been touched by evil and become defiled must be washed pure by the blood of Jesus spilled on the cross.
7) Fill up with the Holy Spirit
8) Call to life a new way of responding consistent with the Kingdom of God.
The steps above describe how the just retribution of the four spiritual laws is satisfied; the curses associated with these laws no longer have power over the life of a believer. Once the root problem is identified, it has to be renounced, and forgiveness needs to be extended to the individual(s) who caused this seed to be sown and take root in the heart.
Jesus, I recognize the destructive power of bitterness, resentment, anger, and hatred over my life. Thank you for granting me an understanding of the captivity I have been subjected to. I now choose to reject these practices of the flesh. Forgive me, Jesus. I take to the cross these practices of the flesh, and I crucify them, condemning them to death. I declare them separated from me for Eternity. I apply your blood, Jesus, spilled on the cross to cleanse me from the defiling presence of these sinful practices. Bring into my life new ways of responding to people who hurt me. Jesus, I was not aware that by judging my parents, I have dishonored them. Forgive my ignorance, Lord. I now wholeheartedly forgive my parents for ________. I pray that You now restore to me the blessings of life.
I pray against the stronghold of ________ in my life, and I break free from its dominion. I pray in the name of my Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
