As discussed earlier, harboring resentment, bitterness, animosity, and anger is self-destructive. These are sinful practices that cause unredemptive emotional pain. You must forgive those who caused you to react sinfully. Now is the moment to ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and examine it for any roots of bitterness, anger, hatred, and resentment. The presence of the Holy Spirit brings to the surface feelings and emotions that have been long forgotten or buried.
Prayer Against Bitterness, Resentment, Hatred and Anger
Holy Spirit, I invite you to examine my heart for any traces of bitterness, resentment, hatred, and anger. Search me and bring every hidden thought and emotion that is an offense before You. Make me aware of the hidden roots of bitterness, resentment, hatred, and anger I may harbor toward some individuals. Bring them to my mind so I can recognize and renounce them. I forgive my offenders. Guide me through this process until these sinful practices no longer have power and dominion over my life. Amen!
As you invite the Holy Spirit to minister to you, be aware of any thoughts, memories, or emotions that may suddenly flood you. These memories may come with a mental picture of an event that dates back to early childhood. The experience is often accompanied by Scripture verses, passages, or stories that speak in a revelatory manner about that specific event. God’s ways of communication are awesome!
When, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you identify roots of bitterness, hatred, animosity, and anger, you must repent, renounce, and bring them to death on the cross. By doing so, you are freeing yourself from their enslaving power over your life. Upon your confession and repentance, according to the law of sowing and reaping, you will no longer reap the bad fruit of these practices because you had destroyed their root by death on the cross.
