Quick update on a few things for Onyx Lives.
Firstly, Road to Ruin is wrapping up; we are currently testing a few last minute alterations to some Fire Chicken related items and some templating checks before we can probably call it ready to head to a Previews Week and then roll out.
Secondly, after feedback and testing, and with upgrades to our previous program, we will be releasing an upgraded version of Rise of Jigoku sometime in the near future. There shouldn't really be many changes from the RoJ you all have access to. There might be one or two problematic card changes, but mostly it's just going to look a lot better than the RoJ we released previously.
Thirdly, the Onyx Remaster has become a bit more of a thing than we originally thought. Frankly speaking, there are a lot more errors, typos, missed bolding, and templating problems on that old PDF than we realized. And of course, we have to generate new art for each card we change, as we can't use the old art. This has led to us also being able to slightly tweak some cards here or there, or make more significant changes to themes that either weren't properly envisioned when the Onyx base set rolled out, or evolved since that point, as well as cards that simply proved bad or underperforming. Also, we have on board a real legit member of the Rules Team, Alex, to keep us in check, and to address an issue that we were not clear on, that there was not a formal Rules Team final review of the Onyx PDF back in the day.
All of this is to say that it's still happening, it's just gonna be a whole lot more of a "thing". Alex is fantastic, but is also only one person tackling a near-Sisyphean task. We are also tweaking and coming up with other ideas, so just bear with us on this one. We decided if we were going to do this, then we needed to do it properly and comprehensively. Here's a little bit of where we are.
PLEASE PARDON OUR DUST
This article originally appeared on Facebook as a work-in-progress description of changes made during our initial Onyx Lives! design phases, and the cards included used AI procedurally-generated art. The Onyx Lives! Project has made a public statement on our cessation of the use of generative AI art. Such art has been removed from the composited cards which were posted with the original preview article, in an effort to preserve the original text which may have evolved since the previews were first posted -- warts and all. The information in this article may be outdated, but it is presented here as part of an ongoing attempt to consolidate all of the various public writings we have made along the way.
